Individual Volunteers

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana is actively recruiting fun, skilled and committed volunteers. Volunteers at Boys & Girls Clubs are more than just volunteers, they are mentors and role models that impact the lives of kids!

Volunteers working individually must complete a volunteer application. Once the application is completed, volunteers must have a background check performed as well as attend an orientation session. We also ask that volunteers pay a $10 fee to cover the cost of their required background check when they complete their application.  If you have any questions, please contact Joey Cirilo at 504-566-0707 or jcirilo@bgcsela.org

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to work directly with youth. See below for more information for volunteer opportunities for youth between the ages of 16-18 years.  Volunteers needing to complete court ordered/recommended community service must contact our office with documentation with stated offense (no matter the offense) to see if their community service can be completed with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana in one of our Clubs.

Club Mentors

Mentors wear several hats and can assist Clubs in a variety of programs. Mentors are needed most for homework help and other special programs. Activities can include homework help, computer lab monitor or a recreational assistant.

Eligibility: To serve as a Club Mentor, you must be at least 18 years old and able to commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week per semester and will be asked to provide availability for the same time and days each month.

When: Mentoring opportunities are available during the school year (August-May) Monday-Friday from 3:30 pm - 6:30 p.m and during the summer (June-July) from 9:00am - 5:30 pm. Mentors will work out a schedule with the Club Director.

Orientation:  All mentors must attend a mandatory orientation prior to serving at the Club and must read and accept the policies and procedures in the volunteer handbook.

Mentoring Roles:

  • Homework Help Tutor - We are looking for volunteers who can tutor our members ages 6-18 in various subjects. The children benefit from the one-on-one attention in reading and completing homework.

  • Special Skill/Teach a Class - Mentors may also have a special skill whether it is cooking, art, yoga or anything else to share. Your special skill can be taught in an ongoing program or class. Your hobby might be just what a child needs to inspire them to be great!

Guest Speakers

Boys & Girls Clubs occassionally accepts guest speakers to make presentations to Club members. If you are interested in becoming a guest speaker, please contact the Club Director at the Club you are interested in presenting at. Click here for Club contact information.

The Club Ambassador opportunity is open to individuals 16 years and older. This opportunity is for individuals who cannot commit to regular attendance at the Club. Club Ambassadors may be called upon to help celebrate (and sponsor) an occasion at the Club such as holiday parties, theme days, science days, field days, etc. Club Ambassadors may also assist with events in the community or even help in preparation for our Club programs. Applications for Club Ambassadors are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. You will be added to our Club Ambassador list and contacted as needed.  For questions about the Club Ambassador program, contact info@bgcsela.org.

Junior Staff

Anyone who is between the ages of 16 and 18 who wishes to volunteer during Club hours, assist with Club programs and serve on an ongoing basis must join our Junior Staff program. These individuals must become Club members and may complete service hours through this program.
