Education and Career Development

We enable young people to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and utilizing technology to optimize employability.

Programs:
  • Goals for Graduation – Introduces academic goal setting to Club members ages 6 to 18 by linking their future aspirations with concrete actions today.  Members create an action plan with daily and weekly goals leading to short and long-term academic gains; encouraging high school graduation and enabling them to make good post-secondary choices.
  • Power Hour - Creates an engaging homework help and tutoring program that encourages Club members ages 6 to 18 to become self-directed learners.  Power hour provides practical tips and Club best practices for recognition and incentives, behavior management, volunteer recruitment and training, collaboration with other organizations, and use of technology and the Internet.
  • Skill Tech I – Through three levels of animated lessons in English or Spanish, members learn skills in various Microsoft software programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Digital Image Pro.
  • Skill Tech II – Teaches advanced, yet practical technology skills, which feature three eight session modules of English and Spanish for beginners, intermediate, and advanced skill levels.  Participants learn about hardware identification and installation, networking and technology-related careers.
  • CareerLaunch – Encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions, and prepare to join our nation’s work force. The program is rounded out with mentoring, job shadowing, and training opportunities.
  • ClubService – Presents AmeriCorps education awards to Club members and alumni ages 17 to 24 who serve their Clubs and communities in the areas of public safety, membership development, youth mentoring and educational support.  Club service also helps these individuals offset the cost of higher education and encourages them to pursue future careers as Boys & Girls Club professionals.
  • Junior Staff – Junior Staff is a program that assists Club members ages 13 to 18 explore a career in youth or human services, particularly Boys & Girls Club work. Young people prepare for future roles as human services professionals by participating in career development activities, discovering the importance of community service, building customer service skills and completing a Club apprenticeship.
  • Money Matters - this financial literacy program was designed specifically to help teens (ages 13 to18) to expand their knowledge of money management and learn the skills that lead to financial independence and well-being.
